Covid-19 update Fife and Tayside 3rd December; St Andrews rates of infection down

Data from Public Health Scotland’s Daily Dashboard show that as of the 30th November, the infection rates per 100,00population in St Andrews Central remained unchanged at 30-49 but other St Andrews rates per 100,000 were down: St Andrews South West: <15-2 (down), St Andrews South East, 50-74 (down) and St Andrews North and Strathkinness:  30-49 (down). St Monans and Pittenweem is currently the only hotspot (>100 per 100,000), in NE Fife.

Over the 7 days up to the 3rd December, 383 further cases were diagnosed in Fife and 380 in Tayside. This compares with 381 in Fife and 399 in Tayside over the previous week.

On the 30th November, the 7 day rate of infection in Fife, currently under Tier 3 restrictions, was 100.9  per 100,000 population compared to 104.4 the previous week.

On the 3rd December, there were 32  cases in hospital in Fife (down 18 over 7 days) and  less than 5 cases in intensive care (down from 8); 70 cases  in hospital in Tayside (up 2 over 7 days) and  less than 5 cases in intensive care (no change).

During the week ending  30th November, 3  deaths of patients with coronavirus were recorded  in Fife and 7 in Tayside .

The latest update by St Andrews University on the 3rd December reported that 2 students and 2 staff had been diagnosed since the previous update on the 26th November, bringing the total  since 1st September to 118. There were 7 active cases, 4 students and 3 staff . In the absence of routine testing, these figures are likely to be an underestimate of the prevalence of the virus given the absence of routine testing.

Amongst confirmed cases in Scotland, there were  209  deaths  over the 7days to the 3rd December, compared to 212  in the previous week.
