Coronavirus case numbers in Tayside and Fife appear to have more or less plateaued.

Fife lags behind Tayside as  the number of confirmed coronavirus patients in hospital in Tayside and Fife slowly falls.

During the period 9th-23rd May the rate of infection in Fife, at 4.3 per 100,000 population, was the second lowest in Scotland. Comparative figures were Dumfries 1.3, Highland 5.6, Glasgow and Clyde 42.1,  Lanarkshire 43.4. On the 3rd June, National Records of Scotland released data for Week 23 showing that as of the 7th June, where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate,  care home deaths accounted for 46% of all coronavirus deaths. The total number of deaths in all settings was 4000.

Deaths of confirmed cases in hospital  continue to rise but at a slower rate than previously. As of the 7th June, there had been 192 deaths due to coronavirus in Fife and 298 in Tayside.

Data are for deaths in all locations: hospital, care homes and at home.

In the UK as a whole, as of 5pm on the 2nd June, there had been 359 coronavirus deaths in all settings (not just hospitals) over the previous 24 hours – taking the total cumulative deaths of confirmed cases in to 39278.
